Make Your Own Home Donation Drop

February 13, 2017

I love my home donation drop! It is the easiest, most impactful organizing system in my home. If you don’t have one I strongly recommend creating one. The steps are super simple.

Step 1[perfectpullquote align=”right” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]

Find a place in your home to store donations temporarily. You can choose a guest room closet, the laundry room, the garage, or basement. Choose a location where the items can be out of the way, but not too difficult to access. You want the system to be convenient and accessible. You also want the place you choose to be visible enough that you don’t forget about it. If you have small children it helps if the spot you choose is accessible to them as well.

Step 2

Find a container to store the donations in. This container can be a paper shopping bag, laundry basket, cardboard box, a fancy basket, or a plastic bin. I prefer a container that does not have a lid so I can toss things inside with ease.

Step 3

Start using your system. Gather items you want to donate and keep adding items until the container is full. Once it’s full it’s time to visit your favorite charity to make a donation drop.

Use a similar system for items you plan to consign.
